Most people don’t think of Los Angeles, California as a military base town, but there is an air force base there, and the soldiers on that base want, just as anybody else does, to know how they can save on their car insurance premium. Members of the military, even retired ones, have many options open to them in addition to the usual methods of savings on their  insurance rates, and they also are eligible for military discounts. In order to get a discount, you must be a member of one of the following branches:

  • Air Force Association
  • Marine Corps League
  • Fleet Reserve Association
  • Navy Federal Credit Union
  • Association of United States Army
  • Air Force Sergeant’s Association
  • Chief Petty Officer’s Association
  • National Military Family Association
  • Pentagon Federal Credit Union

As a member of one of the above military related organizations, you will be able to get a two percent discount on your car insurance premium from GEICO. GEICO started out as an insurance company specifically serving government and military personnel, so if you are a member of the military, you should consider taking your service to them. It is always best to deal with a company that is familiar with service members, but around an air force base that isn’t too hard to do.

There are more than just discounts available for active members of the military if they buy their  insurance from GEICO. If you are deployed overseas, then you have the option of cutting your coverage to only comprehensive, unless someone will be driving your vehicle while gone, so that you it will be protected while in storage but you won’t be having to pay extra for something you don’t even need.

Another perk that you can get from GEICO is a hostile fire discount, which means that if you are deployed to an area that ranks high on the government’s hostile fire scale, such as Iraq or Afghanistan, then you will be able to get a twenty five percent discount on that comprehensive coverage.

GEICO is not the only company that offers these car insurance perks to members of the air force and other branches of the army, but it is one of the biggest car insurance companies that does. However, anytime you live on a military base, you will usually find that the nearby car insurance companies will offer some kind of deal for service members, even if they don’t do so on a national scale.
