Online California Auto Insurance For My Lemon Car?

If you want to get a good online California auto insurance quote for a lemon, then you have to keep track of what is going on with the lemon, because for the time that you have the car it will be considered a higher risk because its delicate state will make it more susceptible to damage in the case of a car accident. If you want to make sure you are not overcharged in your  auto insurance quote for your lemon car, then you have to be able to prove why you should have a cheaper rate.

Here’s what you should keep track of:

  • All of the information that you have from when you first bought the car. This includes that big envelope containing your contract and everything you signed which was given to you by the dealership. You should also have on hand anything about the warranty for your car, as well as whatever ads you saw, if possible, that alerted you to the sell of the vehicle.
  • All of your registration stuff. You’ll need to be able to show with your online  auto insurance quote in which state the car was registered when it was bought by you, and where it is registered now (California).
  • Any documentation you have about repairs. Your online insurance quote about this will get the information from your CLUE report, but in order to get the best deal, you have to make sure that all of the repairs were done by the dealer or manufacturer with OEM parts. You should also make sure that any statements or bills that the repair shop releases should have your version of the damages, because a lot of times the car lots will sidestep lemon laws by playing with words.
  • California auto insurance law requires you to tell the dealer that your car is a lemon, so you need to send a letter. Make sure you have a copy of this, as well as the response, and any other correspondence between you and the manufacturer. Also make sure that all letters are traceable, so that you can have proof that they arrived or not.

Things To Consider Before Selecting a California Auto Insurance

There are several things that you need to be aware of when you are going into the battle for California auto insurance. Here is a list that will make you aware of what to expect and what to demand.

  • Your name is .0001%.

California auto insurance providers, like car insurance companies everywhere, deal in statistics. When they see you, that is what they see, not a living breathing person. Therefore, no matter how many protestations you make that you are the most angelic and able driver in the world, if you are part of a demographic (or if your car is) that files a lot of claims, you are high risk as well. There are a number of things that can push you either way on the risk spectrum, from your job to your car, so it’s something you have to get used to.

  • One is not like the other.

Not all California auto insurance companies are the same, which is why it is necessary to shop around.

  • Price isn’t everything.

While getting a great insurance quote is ideal, it is also important for you to have a bunch of other things from your insurance company. First of all, you will need good rates, but also good service and an easy claims process. You will need to look at several aspects of a company before you decide that it’s the one.

  • Rise above it.

In California auto insurance, you have to have a minimum coverage of $35,000 self insured, and $40,000 if you go through a insurance company. However, most of the time these tiny amounts will not help you when push comes to shove. Think about what you need and consider upping your liability insurance coverage.

  • Get paid.

Every California auto insurance company offers discounts, but so many people just ignore them. According to several studies, Americans spend $500 billion more on car insurance than they would have spent if they had gotten discounts that they are eligible for.

  • Tell the difference.

Many auto insurance providers will try to get off by repairing your car with aftermarket parts when you file a claim with them. While these are just as safe as other parts, if you don’t get the parts from the original manufacturer then your vehicle will lose value.

  • Look out.

Your  insurance company is there to serve you, but that doesn’t mean they will be all enthusiastic about it once the time comes for them to do so. It is your responsibility to fight for the money that you deserve.

  • Think ahead.

Don’t wait until the last minute to read your auto insurance policy as you are waiting for the firemen to pry you out of your wrecked car. If you know what you need to do in the claims process ahead of time, then you don’t have to worry about it when you’re stressed and possibly injured from a collision.

Information on Long Beach California Car Insurance Policy

Here’s some random information about your Long Beach California car insurance policy that I think you should keep in mind when getting your coverage.

  • If it’s in your car, but not part of your car, then it isn’t covered.

My friend used to take his stereo around with him when he went driving because the radio from his car had gotten stolen. If, in turn, the car got stolen, then the stereo which had set him back a couple hundred dollars would be gone forever, unless he had renter’s or homeowner’s insurance. Your North Long Beach CA car insurance policy covers things that are part of your car, but nothing inside of them.

  • When you get a broker, discuss the fee.

Some people decide to get their car insurance through a broker, because the broker can often help them in choosing a car insurance company so that they don’t have to waste a lot of time looking on their own. Whenever you do this, make sure to decide on a broker’s fee upfront, because the brokers do not deal with the state and therefore if you don’t have it in writing, you will be in trouble.

  • If you’re okay, they’re okay.

If you have an insurance policy, then the members of your household are covered by it, even if they are not named on your policy and do not drive the car frequently. Also, if you give a friend or relative permission to drive your vehicle, then they are also covered by your car insurance policy. It is not always necessary for you to give permission, just for them to be sure that you would have consented to them driving the car if asked.

For the record, household is defined as relatives, not roommates. If someone is driving your car frequently, then they need to be on your policy or you could risk having your claim denied.

Is Accident Forgiveness Car Insurance Right For You?

Some California car insurance companies are ready to go in the modern day with new offers, while others are still falling behind. I find that a good way to check if a car insurance company is up to the times and actually cares about its customers, is to ask if it offers accident forgiveness. Most car insurance companies do, but there are different ways that you can go about getting this perk.

  • Do nothing.

My favorite type of  car insurance company is the kind that gives you accident forgiveness with no requirements. There are many companies, such as AllState, who do these, even for brand new customers. They will forgive your first at fault accident, and sometimes your first moving violation as well, so even if you haven’t built up a record with them you won’t see your insurance premium increase after an accident.

  • Earn it.

This is another common form of accident forgiveness. Some companies will reward you by letting your first at fault accident or moving violation go without a premium increase if you have been a long time customer with a good history with them and a previously clean driving record.

  • Pay for it.

Here you have the kind of accident forgiveness that you want to avoid entirely. There is the occasional car insurance company that will require you to pay a little extra on you car insurance premium if you want to include accident forgiveness on your policy. However, in all of its incarnations I have seen that it only forgives for one accident, just like all the others. If they want you to pay for it, maybe they should offer a little more?

Another thing about this kind is that it is self defeating. You want accident forgiveness so that you don’t have to have your premium increase. If you pay extra for accident forgiveness, it’s as if you never had it and had gotten into an accident right away.

Can You Sue Your California Auto insurance Carrier?

Okay, you found your car insurance company, and now it’s time to give up your money and get your auto insurance policy in return. However, it shouldn’t be as simple as that. You may have found the best company and the best rate, but that doesn’t preclude you from the read your auto insurance policy in requirement. Anytime you get an auto insurance policy without reading it beforehand, you are looking for trouble in the future. Here are a couple of things you should look out for.

  • Don’t let go of your tort.

In many states, you have the option to limit the amount that you can sue. Normally, if you have limited lawsuit capability, your auto insurance policy in will cost less. However, you have to consider that if you do this, you are making it very hard for yourself in extreme situations. Normally they will only let you sue if you have undergone some terrible, life long injury. And it also makes it to where the car insurance company can take advantage of you.

If you keep the right to sue as part of your auto insurance policy, then you are more free with your ability to file a claim and if you have any problems with your claim, be it with the company or the other driver, then you can still go to court to handle your problems instead of relying on othe methods which might not be as rewarding for you.

  • Check your parts.

Another thing that the insurance companies like to slip into the auto insurance policy is the requirement for aftermarket parts whenever you are getting repairs. Often, even people who read their auto insurance policy will not realize what this means, but if you read my post about aftermarket and OEM parts you can see why this requirement might not be good for you.

Other names for aftermarket parts are ‘new factory’ and ‘like kind and quality’.

Join a Club Or Organization to Lower Your Car Insurance Rate

I live a busy life, and so for a long time I didn’t bother to join any kinds of clubs or organizations. In fact, except for a brief stint in the Society for Creative Anachronism, I hadn’t been part of a club since high school up until a couple of months ago, when I joined AAA. I quickly began to reap the benefits. When I went to visit my brother in San Francisco, I got fifteen percent off of my hotel room price simply for being a member of AAA. I can’t even begin to list the savings I’ve grabbed for joining that organization.

My favorite one, though, would have to be the better rates I now get on my car insurance premium. I get a ten percent discount through AAA, and along with all of the other discounts I get, I’m riding pretty cheap, a lot cheaper than I was, say, a year ago.

And things like AAA aren’t the only ones you can join. You can also join one of the many car clubs out there for your specific type of car. Normally, the people who join these clubs are the ones who make additions to their car, turn them into high performance cars, or own classic cars. However, even people who don’t normally think more about their car than to get the oil changed can join these clubs.

I joined a club for BMWs last month, even though I’m not a big expert on cars. My deal is the insurance, not the car itself. However, there is a special place in my heart for my 1987 BMW 325i, and so I figured, why not? Well, I haven’t seen the returns on car insurance yet, although when my premium renews I will be getting a 15% discount from this club as well. In the meanwhile, all of the information about this car that I previously knew so little about has been both helpful and interesting.

Understanding California Car Insurance Rules and Terminology

When you’re buying your California car insurance online, you will usually come across a lot more car insurance terms than you would if you were buying them in an office or with an agent over the phone. The good thing about having an agent is that they will be there to explain rules and terms to you. However, more and more people are realizing that they don’t need an agent, and can in fact get all of their car insurance online. As a result, more confusion can happen because the only person there to explain car insurance terms to you is you yourself. I’ve made a list of common terms that you will encounter while buying your car insurance online. Hopefully it will make the process much easier.

  • Actual cash value: This is the amount that your car is worth, after depreciation, and is what you receive after your vehicle is totaled in a car accident.
  • Benefit: this is what you get when you file a claim, paid by the car insurance online company.
  • Bodily injury liability: this is for if you get into an accident that you cause, to take care of the medical coverage for the injured people in the other vehicle.
  • Claim: when you get into a car accident and you ask to get money for your coverage based on damages.
  • Collision: This is coverage for whenever you get into an at fault accident to cover the damages on your own property.
  • Comprehensive: coverage for things such as vandalism, theft, and damages due to natural disaster.
  • Deductible: the part of the expenses that you have to pay before your car insurance coverage kicks in.
  • Exclusion: something that is not covered by the CA car insurance online policy.
  • Full coverage: liability plus comprehensive and collision.
  • Indemnity: a predetermined sum paid for loss.
  • Limits: the highest the car insurance online company will pay for losses.
  • No fault insurance: car insurance claims dealt with in each person’s own company. No blame involved or required.
  • Personal injury protection: covers medical expenses for the at fault driver, including long term and wage loss for serious injuries.
  • SR22 form that must be filed for three years or more as proof of insurance after DUI.
  • Tort: when you sue someone for damages after a car insurance accident.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage: when you get into an accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist and they are at fault, then you will need this coverage for your own damages.

Cheap Student California Car Insurance Rates

Reader question:

I’m a student at UCLA. How do I get the best California car insurance rate?

Gabriela

That is a great question, Gabriela.

Students like us are broke, busy, and braindead from studying half the time, so it certainly helps to know what we can do to lift some of the burden of heavy California car insurance rates. Your California car insurance rate doesn’t have to be high, though. All the same, people take it for a given that just because they are under the age of twenty five, they should resign themselves to paying $200 monthly premiums. Not so. I cut my rates by more than fifty percent in the last year alone, and I’m nowhere near my twenty five year mark. First, I suggest that you skim through some of the other posts on this site and look at the ways to save. Then, I want to introduce you to some other ways for the study burned student to save money on their California car insurance rate.

There are three main ways that you can save money on your California car insurance rate while you’re a student, and one is by sticking to your study plan, another is by sticking with your ‘rents, and the third is by sticking to your bus ticket. None of them sounds particularly fun, but none of it hurts as much as a high California car insurance rate quote, either, so if I were you I would thank my lucky stars that I got a chance to save so much on my California car insurance rate.

Now I’m going to break it down. You may not be able to do all of the suggested things, depending on what part of California car insurance rate is coming from, but you can pick and choose. First:

  • Sticking to your study plan.

You shouldn’t need more encouragement to do this, but if you’re in the mood to let your studies slide and just slip through the UCLA books with a C average, think again if you want to save money on your California car insurance rate. That’s right, being a good student can get you as much as a fifteen percent discount from many California car insurance companies.

The requirement tends to be that you have either a B average or a 3.5 grade point average, and you can prove it. If you don’t have this great California car insurance rate discount, ask your insurance company ASAP.

  • Sticking with your ‘rents.

Personally, I am not on my parents car insurance policy. The difference, though, between me and a lot of college students is that I’m married. If you’re an unmarried college student, you can save money on your California car insurance rate by staying on your parents policy. Your parents, probably, have better driving history and lower risk for you, so being on the same policy with them will still be costly, but will make you less risky.

You can even get on a car insurance policy with your roomate for a smaller discount. So long as you don’t go it alone.

  • Sticking with your bus ticket.

Most people don’t want to ride the bus if they can avoid it, but for some it’s a great way that they can save money on their California car insurance rate. If you go to UCLA, then you should be able to take advantage of the bus system. If you combine this with the last suggestion, you can get a lower California car insurance rate by leaving your car at home with your parents, staying on their policy, and being covered whenever you come home on weekends and vacation. Most car insurance companies offer a lower California car insurance rate to your parents if you leave your car at home and go to school over a hundred miles away.

Another thing, if you have your own policy and have a car, is that you can get the low mileage discount by using the bus whenever you can and thus cutting your mileage. Other car insurance companies give discounts to people who use the bus.

Cheers,

Fashun Guadarrama.

Do I Need Car Insurance in California To Drive My Friend’s Car?

Reader’s question:

I have a California driver’s license but I do not have car insurance. Can I still use my friend’s car if its insured?

Cheska

Good question Cheska.

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicle, all car drivers and vehicle owners must have the required minimum liability car insurance. This means that even if you do not have a vehicle, you would still need to carry an auto insurance and a driver’s license in California.

You may check with your friends insurance policy if you are covered with her policy if you’re going to drive your friend’s car. If you are going to drive that car on a regular basis, your friend should add you as the occasional driver on that car.

Normally, the car insurance insurance follows the car. So you should be covered by your friend’s car insurance.

It is best to check with the insurance provider if they have any exclusion in this kind of situation.

Goodluck!
