I Need Cheap High Risk Driver Car Insurance In California

Reader’s Question:

I live in California and I just want to know what I should do if I cant find an insurance company that will insure me?

Thyme

Good Question, Thyme.

Some of the insurance companies specialize for the high risk drivers. This what we call the non standard market. If you plan to purchase in the non standard markets, make sure you shop around first because the requirements and eligibility are different from these insurance companies.

If you still cant find an insurance company that will insure you, you can get liability coverage from the California Automobile Assigned Risk Plan. (CAARP). This plan is for those who are unable to find an insurance company from the non standard markets and for those who do not qualify as a good driver.

Heres how the plan works. Your application will be assigned to an insurance company. All insurance companies are required to accept all applicants of CAARP. The rates for the plan are all the same regardless of which insurance company that issues the policy. This plan is also available in installment. If you maintain a clean driving record for three years, you may be able to move to a standard line insurance company.

You may check with the certified insurance agent of CAARP to find out more information on how to apply for the insurance with this plan.

Goodluck!

Do Car Insurance Companies Give Discounts For Defensive Driving Class?

As most car insurance policy holders are aware of, the drivers around here are crazy. Aggressive and swerving little devils, it takes effort to not ram into them, on accident or on purpose (road rage). What many people who have been in accidents realize is that being able to compensate for the stupid driving habits of your fellows on the road can prevent a lot of pain, and not the least a insurance claim.

The way to find out how to avoid these crazy people is to sign up for a defensive driving course. Not only will you learn in one of these courses how to protect yourself on the road, but you will also avoid filing a car insurance claim, as well as being eligible for a insurance discount. Most  car insurance companies do give discounts, both for defensive driving courses as well as regular introductory driver’s education courses.

Why take one?

  • The National Insurance Safety Council says that almost eighty percent of car insurance accidents happen because the driver messed up in some way. If you learn how to drive defensively and responsibly, you can avoid being part of this statistic.
  • If you have a speeding ticket, then you can go to defensive driving class and get it taken off of your driving record. That’s two drops in your Norwalk CA car insurance rates right there.
  • The discounts on your Norwalk CA car insurance rates can be pretty high, ranging from five to ten percent. Normally, though, in order to get a discount, you have to take the class voluntarily.

Where do you take one?

  • Classes for defensive driving are all over the place, but your Norwalk CA car insurance company will not recognize all of them. To find out which defensive driving school will get you a discount, ask your Norwalk CA car insurance agent or company representative.
  • Make sure that the school you go to is authorized by the National Safety Council. You can check their website to make sure that your course is included.

Taking a defensive driving class can even be fun, and if you get your whole family involved, you should see how fast your Norwalk CA car insurance rates will dwindle.

What Personal Information Do I Have To Give To Get Car Insurance Online

Reader question:

When I get my car insurance online, what kind of information do they get on me?

Martin

Thank you for your question, Martin.

Every time that you apply for car insurance online, you will have to, of course, fill out an application with certain information, such as your name, age, and so on. In addition to that, your car insurance company or agent will then require some extra information and then seek out some more. They will need:

  • Your annual mileage on your vehicle.
  • Driving history.
  • Number of years you have been driving.

Using this information, they will then determine what the price of your coverage will be for buying your car insurance online.

Your driving history is contained on your motor vehicle report, which gets its information from the California department of motor vehicles. This will have the dates and quality of any moving violations you have been ticketed for, any license suspensions, as well as any car accidents. The report will also be acquired for any other people who will be on the policy you are buying of insurance online.

If you get into bad trouble, then you may be required to provide your car insurance company with an SR22 form. Normally, you will have to continue with your SR22 filing for three years after the date that your license is restored to you. I say restored because you only get an SR22 after your license has been suspended, though not in all cases of license suspension. Even though your company only has to file the SR22 form for only three years, though, the conviction will usually stay on your record for seven and you will be charged the high rates accordingly.

The SR22 form is different from the SR1 form, so don’t get confused. Anytime that you get into an accident where somebody gets hurt, or when the amount of the damages is above $750, you will need to file the SR1 form within ten days with the department of motor vehicles in your area.

Should You Lie To Your California Car Insurance Agent For a Better Rate?

Reader question:

Is it okay to lie about certain things in order to get a good  auto insurance quote in California?

Mary

Thank you for your question, Mary.

Like they say, if you tell a white lie, it will turn into another white lie, and before you know it down the line, you will have an entire system of lies that you will need to control and remember. It’s never an idea to lie, especially when money is involved. While it is true that many people get away with it, many more get caught, and when you get caught out telling a lie it often ends up costing you more than you saved.

  • Represent, don’t misrepresent.

Normally, car insurance companies have sixty days after they have given you your CA auto insurance quote and you have bought a policy in which they will be able to cancel your policy without any problems. This period gives them to research your insurance background, look at your CLUE report, credit history, and so on so that they can make sure that you are someone they want to insure.

However, if you misrepresent your information, then you can have your policy canceled anytime. For example, if you lie about a previous insurance cancellation, then if your car insurance company that had canceled you does not report it right away, your new car insurance company might not find out about this cancellation during the sixty days that they during which they are looking for your information. After the initial sixty days, though, car insurance companies will usually look at your information again after they have given you your six month CA auto insurance quote, so if they find it then you might not have your policy renewed because of the bad information.

At times, lying to your car insurance company can get you in even more trouble. For example, while members of your household are covered on your policy, if your teenager is driving your car regulalry and you hadn’t added him to the policy to get a higher CA auto insurance quote, then if he gets into an accident you might have your claim denied.

Cheers,

How to Get The Best Auto Insurance Rate

Maybe all that I’ve said about researching the best auto insurance online and buying it there as well hasn’t gotten through to you. Or perhaps you’re just more interested in the face to face kind of thing. If this is the case, then when you go to buy the best auto insurance, you need to keep in mind what not to forget.

  • Even if you go alone without the other named people on your policy, you will still need to have their driver’s license numbers with you so that they can be added to the policy.
  • You will also need to bring your vehicle registration number (VIN) for any car that you will get on your auto insurance policy. On all the cars that I’ve had have the VIN located somewhere on the door, but I’m not sure if this is universal. If you don’t know, ask.
  • Gather any necessary info about available car insurance policies so that you can ensure that you purchase the best auto insurance.
  • Ask about the broker’s fee. If there is no fee, don’t worry. If there is, decide it beforehand.
  • Know how you will pay your premium. You might want to pay it all at once, make a large down payment and continue in installments, or simply pay in installments. Make sure your car insurance company offers these options.
  • If you don’t understand something, don’t sign it. If it’s blank, don’t sign it. Know what you are signing.
  • Take notes if you can’t remember, but make sure you have a record of how the policy buying goes. Also write down the name of the insurance agent you are dealing with.
  • Always give correct information, and all the information required.
  • Make sure you know the full name of your car insurance company.
  • Always keep the documents you sign and make sure that you have a copy of everything for your records.

Once you have your policy, make sure that you read through it thoroughly. Never walk out of your insurance office if you don’t understand your policy. Most of the time your car insurance agent will help you out with this, or you can read some other blog posts on the issue.

Affordable Classic Auto Insurance in California

Getting classic auto insurance in California is rather easy. All you have to do is add your new classic vehicle to your regular car insurance policy. But is that the wise thing to do? I would say it isn’t. If you add your classic car to your regular auto insurance in California that would mean that if you total your vehicle, they will give you the same as they give for every other kind of car–what it’s worth after depreciation. For a car that is forty years old or more, that won’t leave you with much, and it doesn’t take into account the classic value of the car.

Getting specialty classic auto insurance in California is slightly more difficult. Normally, there are some qualifications that you must have in order to insure your car with specialty classic auto insurance in California.

  • A limited amount of yearly mileage.
  • A few years of driving experience.
  • Another car that is for regular use.
  • No business usage.
  • The car must be a certain age or over it.

After you qualify according to these standards, you can buy real classic auto insurance in California. While there are some companies that provide regular auto insurance policies as well as classic, it might be better to go to a specialty company for your classic auto insurance in California. It might cost a little more, but the classic auto insurance company will have the experts.

If you are going to get classic auto insurance in California, it would be advisable to insure your classic car under an agreed value car insurance policy. In order to do this, you have to agree with the car insurance agent on what that value will be, so that if you total your classic car, there will already be a set amount.

Typically, if the problems that your car has as a result of the accident are less than the amount of the agreed value, then the car can be fixed. However, if they are more, than you will be given the agreed value. One thing that you must remember is that after a repair, the car will lose some value.

California Car Insurance Company – Any Recommendations?

You may be thinking, hey, she says it’s easy, but it really doesn’t sound like it. How can I get my policy from the best CA car insurance company out there and not have to put myself out so much. Well, you can do it. I don’t advise it, but a lot of people do. Still, before you go this route, at least try to do it on your own. It’s cheaper, faster, and at least you know the results through your own work and you can trust them more.

However, if you just can’t or don’t want to, get a CA car insurance company agent.

A lot of companies don’t use agents anymore. People often buy their car insurance policies directly from the CA car insurance company, without the use of the middle man. Even so, agents are still working in full force, even in these days. There are two kinds:

  • Captive car insurance agent.

This type of agent might not be the best in helping you find your perfect CA car insurance company, because they swear by only one car insurance company. If you already know where you want to go, then you can absolutely go through one of these agents.

  • Independent car insurance agent.

These agents are more up your alley. They count more than one CA car insurance company as clients, and as such they can give you a more frank look at which car insurance company will work the best for you. This is the kind of agent you’re probably looking for, at least with regards to picking your CA car insurance company.

The best part about having an agent looking for a CA car insurance company for you is that the agent is going to know YOU, personally and specifically. They know exactly what your needs are and what details about you can work in favor of a cheap car insurance premium, a few things that might be hard to fit into a google search.

Remember that when you get your car insurance agent, who also go by the title of broker, you should make sure that you have decided on the fee before you sign anything. They may offer you something straight out, but most of the time it can be negotiated.
